Three-Vehicle Collision on Spur Tree Hill Road, Truck Driver Rushed to Hospital

The driver of a truck was rushed to hospital following a three-way motor vehicle crash along the Spur Tree Hill main road in Manchester on Tuesday.

Reports are that the truck driver was travelling on the busy roadway at about 3:00 p.m. when he reportedly lost control of the vehicle, which overturned. Two other vehicles which were being driven on the opposite side of the road were also damaged.

An eyewitness said the truck driver was pinned inside his vehicle for some time.

He was later rescued by motorists and a group of persons who gathered at the scene.

Sources reported that at least two occupants of the vehicles suffered minor injuries.

The collision caused a traffic pile-up for some time.

Just a little over six weeks ago, a retired policewoman was crushed to death in a motor vehicle crash on the same roadway. Since that time, at least two other collisions have been reported there.

On Saturday, August 11, retired officer Paulette Mullings was returning home from a visit to friends and relatives in St Elizabeth when a cement mixer truck slammed into her car.

Indications are that shortly after 2:00 p.m., the cement mixer truck was being driven down the steep hill when it developed excess speed and in an effort by the driver to ‘bank’ the vehicle on the right side of the roadway where the hillside is, the body of the truck was dislodged from the cab, and ended up crashing into Mullings’ vehicle.
