Man Shot Dead by Police Officer, Gun Seized During ‘shootout’ in Westmoreland

The Communications Unit of the Jamaica Constabulary Force has reported that a man was shot dead during a gun battle with law enforcement officers in Westmoreland on Friday.

Reports are that the deceased man who has been identified as James Brown, otherwise known as ‘Andy’ or ‘Mackerel’ of West End, Negril, was killed at about 8:30 pm.

A police unit was conducting an operation along the Little London main road in Negril when they signalled a Toyota Wish motor car to stop.

Reportedly, the driver of the motor car who was travelling alone alighted from the vehicle and engaged the officers. The officers allegedly defended themselves by returning fire.

Upon inspection, the man was found suffering from a gunshot wound, with his Luger pistol with magazine and four rounds were discovered close to him.

He was taken to the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital where he was confirmed dead.

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) launched a probe into the shooting to determine its validity.
